Down But Not Yet Out

I was feeling the strain of twenty years
I was saying well this is all there is
I was seeing my blood it dripped like tears
I was counting the cost of all my fears

So you wanted to be like me to be seen
so you wanted to rise from your darkest dream
so you wanted to be the things that I've been

Well let me tell you something
it's not what it seems
let me give you advice
Come on now hang on to your dreams

I was down but not yet out you see
I was riding the road to victory
I was sailing the stars of secrecy
and I was wearing the mask of honesty

Don't you know you can stop and start it again
if you thought about time then it would be your friend
don't you know that the sword is the same as the pen

And in your world of trouble
where nothing goes right
I can give you advice
if you won't think once
then baby think twice

So you see where I stand and where I fall
so you see what I've got and that's for all
can you see this big man ain't so tall?
you have to keep your feet down on the floor

Do you still want to be like me to be seen?
do you still want want to rise from your darkest dream?
do you still want to be the things that I've been?

And let me tell you something
it's not what it seems
let me give you advice
come on now hang onto your dreams
hang onto your dreams
hang onto your dreams

Dental Eyes*

If you always eat with your eyes
there will be nothing left to see.

Come on dental eyes
take a bite out of me.

And if you always eat with your eyes
there will be nothing left to see.

Come on dental eyes,
You take a bite out of me.
Take a bite out of me.
You take a bite out of me.
Take a bite out of me!

You always stare at the screen
with its voracious glow and gleam!
Gotta get your fix
of people and places
that don't mean a thing!

And if you always eat with your eyes
there will be nothing left to see.

Come on dental eyes

You take a bite out of me.
Take a bite out of me.
You take a bite out of me.
Take a bite out of me!

You always stare at the screen
when there's so much here to see!
It's going to change your mind
into something obscene!

solo

Take a bite out of me.
You take a bite out of me.
Take a bite out of me.
You take a bite out of me!

You always stare at the screen
when there's so much here to see!
It's going to change your mind
into something obscene!

And if you always eat with your eyes
there will be nothing left to see.

Come on Dental Eyes,
Why can't you see me?
You can't see me.
Why can't you see me?
You can't see me!!!

Donate Organs

Shall I donate my organs
So another human can see through my eyes?
Kidneys pump,
Liver, gets rid of toxins and God knows what
My heart in someone else’s body
My feelings once connected to my brain

Was that destined?
I feel a need to preserve
What kind of person is the receiver?
I will never know

How generous will I be
In another body?
Let’s hope the gun
Never fires again
Besides, I’ll have an unfinished obituary

Youth in Asia

just recorded 8 songs back to back.  They sound like what we think they should sound like.  I think we will have a proper demo tape within a month.

Buellton--Keepin' It Real

One of my favorite slow, folky, rock bands from and named after my hometown of Buellton, CA (home of the god damn split pea soup.)

Youth in Asia!

My new punk band with Brian Azevedo (Brian O'blivion) and Darwin Doud (The Darwin) and I (Steely Paul) played our first show at our friend Sadie's house last night.  After the cops gave us a stern noise warning, we moved the party inside and were able to play our set.  The whole show was recorded by Anabel Curry.  Lead Leaf (O'blivion & I) opened up the night followed by Oakland's Public Library and Oakland's Karen.  The cops showed up and after a long moment of fear and depression, we moved things inside.  Many many thanks to Sadie and Zach for being the best hosts and letting us play despite the pigs.

Arthur Weil

I just started working for local poet, Arthur Weil.  If you could take the time out of your day and check out his blog, I'm sure you'll find something you like.  He is an older gentleman who escaped from Germany as a child and who later fought in WWII.  He has written over 10,000 poems and published 19 books.  Thank you for supporting local artists!!!!

Here is the cover art for Lead Leaf's "The Royal 'We.' "  The royal family was drawn in ink during one  very sickly weekend.

Wild Boundary

there is a new wild boundary
beyond the hearts and minds of the city people
swirling like tops, erupting in the sunshine like cumming volcanoes.
Swallow whole the fly, the frog does.
He sits on a dark rock, smooth and quiet.
His dark eyes dart back and forth like eager windshield wipers in the pouring rain.
His dark eyes dart back and forth
He closes his eyes
and stops his licking.
for just a moment
a second
quiet
quiet,
nothing.
 Pause.
A hazy light glows green in the forest, as if it were enchanted
but the forest is not enchanted;
It is glowing with a deep hatred, a deep anger.
It glows deep underground, in the roots of the trees,
deep in the dank soil of my father's time,
and my father's father's time,
and my father's father's father's time,
and my father's father's father's father's time.

I get out.  I move. I don't let the forest steal my soul.
I won't be tricked by something so primitive.
fuck that.

A year goes by  (it's only been a month)  a year goes by
and the mind goes by, by the south gate, by the mire.

Do you remember how we were?  In the sunshine,
late at night,
smoking cigarettes in the backyard,
late at night.
You said you loved me, and I believed you.
I said I loved you, and you believed me.
What were we thinking, thinking of each other, together forever,
as each other's lovers.
But little did I know
that it would not last.
I took you for granted,
wanted someone else's enchantments,
But I realized I missed you,
until I actually kissed you.
We shouldn't be together,
We're not buttons on a sweater,
We only talk about the weather,
When is that ever better?
I told you once I loved you,
and truly I loved you,
But now I feel so angry,
singing to myself a song:
"Everybody seems to think I 'm lazy!"

fuck off fuck off,
you know I'm cut off,
but i'll keep trying if you keep off.

Destitution

Metal through Water

Ashby
cash be thin and waining
but I'll take the long train
anyway, under the bay
under the water
surrounds me on all sides
but I don't see it
and I don't feel it
but I know it's there.
Strange to me how we can
move like this,
wondrous how we've
built like this,
funny to me
how common it is
to move metal through water.
